(Above is the vietnamese saigon Sandwhich.far left is the pork bun containing egg and sliced asian sausage, sometimes peas are included ..and the back is my favorite guava and soy drink.)
My name is Da and I have a confession of food. In this case it's the Saigon Sandwhiches. Originated from Vietnam. I was fortunately blessed enough to have good taste buds. As a kid i loved going to the Asian market and getting my pork buns and Saigon Sandwhiches. It was made in a store but, gradually over the years they stopped making it. I loved the smell of the card board boxes and tofu display along the back aisle. When you went to get your sandwhich it was made in the back past the produce with the Fred Flintsone that yelled "Yabbba Yabba dooo." Everytime you got a 50 cent toy. Well years down the road passed by and there was a new store that opened up onthe far side of town that made the saigon exactly the way I remembered it tasted. Being in Los angeles I have not found that authentic correct taste for the Saigon Sandwhich. It's hard to explain, many make it with a french roll and pretend to make it look like it's delicious. The Saigon I get is in Northern California and it's a basic hole in the wall...no really with bars and broken windows. I'm not kidding..despite that it's the most delicious Sandwhich ever made. I also want to compare a Saigon I got in Chinatown here. It was horrific...vs. terriffic. If i don't get to go home and get my sandwhich I get a subway containing Turkey, not toasted lol lettuce, tomato, onion, american cheese, avacado cilantro, spinach with mayonaise and honeymustard. I only get this if I miss my Saigon Sandwhich aka the Asian Subway. (Below Saigon from chinatown) too bad there's no vietnamese town..I'm sure it would of been better.
This contained Asian soggy cucumbers, soggy carrots, raddish. and pork meat and fried skin. It looked different from the picture displayed. I payed nearly five dollars for this and just let them keep the change, they weren't friendly and I wanted to leave asap.
